Community Notice: Randwick Barracks grounds maintenance – improving stormwater flow
Defence will be undertaking routine grounds maintenance to improve stormwater flow primarily within an existing drainage swale in the vacant, north-eastern section of Randwick Barracks. This important work will remove obstacles that restrict stormwater flow which can lead to local flooding. This maintenance work is not related to the proposed Bundock Street Housing Redevelopment project.
Upcoming maintenance work will consist of mowing, grass slashing, weeding and the removal of trees growing within the swale that are currently obstructing stormwater flows. The work will be carried out primarily within the Defence site in locations close to Bundock Street, Ellen Street, Hendy Avenue, Gumara Street and Marida Street.
Defence is aware of the presence of protected flora within Randwick Barracks. The work will be led by an environmental specialist to ensure there is no impact to protected flora and fauna. Although no earthworks are required, dust and sediment management measures and air monitoring will also be in place.
The works will commence in early December 2023 and the initial phase will take approximately one week (weather pending).
